In the current job climate, it might make you feel uncertain when making a big career move, especially one that’s overseas.

There’s a lot of things to consider when moving to the Middle East. The region is rapidly evolving when it comes to groundbreaking projects, making it attractive for many engineering professionals.

We have some guidance on things to weigh up before accepting an offer, but how do you pick your next engineering opportunity in the first place?

Below we give insight into choosing your next career opportunity.

1.How to identify great career opportunities in the Middle East

First, you’ll want to consider the reasons for your career move as well as your career growth potential.

Look for areas that you may have been restricted from in the past either due to COVID-19, experience, or the job market.

Research positions you have the expertise for, and consider advice on complete career and location changes. Always be thinking about what new skills or attributes are needed to move forward.

Find which locations stand out the most to you in the Middle East along with what kind of projects you’d prefer to work on.

2. Demonstrate your skillset to potential employers

If you’re sure about your career move, think about how to market yourself. Reach out to staffing agencies, and connect with people on LinkedIn in your field or in the location you’re looking to move. By doing this, you can get a feel for the working life and culture.

At TRS Staffing Solutions (TRS) we constantly help candidates make career changes, whether local or overseas, we do our best to find you your dream job. Our global network of 26 offices closely collaborates to help candidates connect with opportunities worldwide.

Back in 2020 TRS Middle East, in collaboration with our offices in the UK, India and South Africa, filled many exciting jobs for international candidates.

Across Maritime, Rail & Infrastructure, and Oil & Gas, we matched candidates in roles all around the Middle East. From Qatar and the UAE to Saudi Arabia, we secured positions for candidates in roles in quality management, technical engineering, risk management, and more.

3.How TRS will work with you - a case study

Finding your next opportunity is straightforward when you work with TRS.

Let’s take a recent example of a UK-based candidate who wished to work in the Middle East.

The candidate, a UK-based Pipeline Engineer, was actively looking for a new international career opportunity. Their TRS UK consultant consulted colleagues in our Dubai office who were searching for Pipeline Engineers.

After discussions of the job specification with the managing consultant in Dubai, it was confirmed that the candidate was a good fit for one of the roles. The UK consultant advised the candidate of the opportunity, who was immediately interested and wanted to be submitted.

The managing consultant in Dubai quickly secured an interview for the candidate, who was accepted and offered by the client. The Dubai office provided all the pre-mobilisation advice to the UK consultant ensuring that the checks and requirements were quickly processed and provided back to Dubai.

The candidate found the process of moving to the project location in Kuwait smooth and easy.
