We seek a passionate, knowledgeable, energetic and outgoing individuals to join our team as a Docent at the African-American Pioneers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Architecture, and Math (STEM) Museum. As a Docent, you will be crucial in educating and engaging visitors, showcasing the significant contributions of African-American pioneers in STEM fields, and inspiring visitors of all ages.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Museum Curator: Work closely with the museum curator to coordinate tours and ensure a cohesive visitor experience.
- Maintain Visitor Engagement: Foster a welcoming and inclusive environment for all visitors. Encourage active participation, answer inquiries, and ensure a positive and memorable experience for each visitor.
- Provide Interpretive Support: Assist visitors in understanding the historical, practical, technological and societal significance of exhibits, artifacts, and displays. Share additional information to deepen visitors' understanding and appreciation of African-American contributions in STEM.
- Visitor Count: Maintain an accurate count of all visitors to the museum.
- Daily Reports: Complete a daily activity report to track visitor engagement and museum operations.
- Accident Reports: If necessary, prepare and submit accident reports to the museum curator.
Qualifications:
- Preferred but not required: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as history, science, education, or museum studies.
- Working knowledge and understanding of African-American pioneers in STEM, including their contributions, challenges, and historical context.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and effectively convey information.
