About the Career:
We are seeking a key player to join our dynamic team of professionals in our Charleston, SC office.  This position provides an opportunity for an environmental permitting specialist to join the  team of engineering and environmental scientists to provide a comprehensive range of services to our clients.

What You’ll Learn and Achieve:
Specific Duties:
  • Demonstrates and supports our core values
  • Working knowledge of key natural resource regulations, including Sections 404 and 401 of the Clean Water Act, Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act, Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act, National Environmental Policy Act, and the South Carolina (SC) Critical Area Regulations.
  • Complete state and federal permit applications for projects including Clean Water Act (Sections 401 and 404), Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act, ESA consultations (BA, Sections 7 and 10), mitigation plans, and corresponding SC Regulations. Experience in Coastal SC and with the US Army Corps and South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control Ocean & Coastal Resource Management (SCDHEC-OCRM) is a plus.  Experience with dredge permitting is a plus.
  • Collaborate with our multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, scientists, and other professionals to prepare regulatory compliant environmental plans and reports.
  • Perform project delivery activities such as report writing, data collection and interpretation, literature review, and development of recommendations for clients.  Build tables and spreadsheets, tabulate and manage data.
  • Evaluate proposed project activities and analyze resulting environmental impacts from plans and drawings, and potential for reducing and avoiding environmental impacts, as appropriate. Effectively communicate findings and recommendations internally and to the client.
  • Coordination and communicate with environmental regulatory agencies and participate in project meetings as a project representative with staff from government agencies.
  • Conduct desktop and online studies or research on natural resource or resource planning topics.
  • Identification of jurisdictional wetlands, classification and delineation of wetlands and streams, and determining mitigation requirements to support the environmental permitting would be a plus, but not required.

  • Write clearly and concisely and presents data and arguments in an organized fashion, in a presentation directed to the client(s) and agencies.
  • Find and champion new and better ways to get things done. 
  • Add value through level of contributions both within and outside the scope of daily responsibilities.
What Makes You a Great Fit:       
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in natural resources management, environmental science, environmental planning, or related scientific field of study.
  • 3 to 10 years of environmental impact assessment and natural resources permitting experience.
  • Proficient in the use of current versions of AutoCAD software and/or GIS software familiarity a plus.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Word and Excel experience required.
