Summary:
You will have the opportunity to be exposed to a variety of experiences and partner with a business that has a need for a proactive HR partnership with strong organizational, communication and execution skills. In this critical role you will manage a variety of high-touch human resource activities for several locations of a Southern California business unit. This is a hands-on role that requires both tactical and strategic execution of business unit level projects and activities, while maintaining focus and alignment with company-wide initiatives and programs. You will also be a member of our HR Operations team, which is focused on optimizing, designing and implementing company-wide HR programs that directly impact our employee and manager experiences. The ideal candidate has a proven track record of having successful organizational impact in a mid-sized company and matrix environment.
Job Duties:
• You will guide workforce planning and talent acquisition, performance management, complex employee relations case management, employee engagement and development, and compensation management.
• Develop very effective partnerships with division management and strong relationships with employees at all levels.
• Provide advice and counsel to managers on a regular basis for complex employee performance issues including investigations, performance improvement plans, and performance counseling.
• Advise and guide the business on the development of workforce plans. Partner with Talent Acquisition and interface with management to ensure all positions are filled effectively and timely, in accordance to workforce plans.
• Support annual performance appraisal process and partner with Compensation function to facilitate compensation processes by counseling and advising managers.
• Manage and facilitate full employee life-cycle activities.
• Collaborate with HR Functional Experts/teams (TA, Talent Management, Total Rewards, and L&D) to execute, and communicate programs that meet the needs of employees and the business.
• Participate in the development and implementation of Corporate Human Resources Programs to maximize effectiveness and minimize redundancies in company-wide HR processes
Requirements / Must haves:
• Bachelor’s degree required. Human Resources Management, Organizational Development, Business Administration/Management
o If degree is in other field of study a PHR/SPHR or SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP Certification is required.
• 8+ years of progressive experience in Human Resources working in a mid-size company with 2-3+ years HRBP level experience.
• Must have demonstrated experience managing primarily exempt level professional employees. Union employees/CBA experience desired.
• Construction, Engineering or similar industry experience preferred
• Proven ability to build and maintain very effective relationships and work successfully as an influencer across organization lines and at all levels, while supporting managers/employees. Ability to navigate a matrix organization and experience partnering with HR functional experts.
• The ability to shift quickly between tactical and strategic work/initiatives.
• Significant working knowledge of, employment law, workforce planning/recruitment, organizational design, employee and labor relations. General knowledge of collective bargaining agreements, training, compensation, benefits, and leave management.
• Ability to problem solve and provide advice and counsel on complex professional and organizational employee issues. Ability to develop creative solutions and provide options to management.
• Very strong organizational and prioritization skills; ability to meet deadlines and manage changing priorities in a fast-paced and sometimes ambiguous environment; ability to work independently; excellent customer service skills with timely responses to high volume requests.
• Ability to travel to construction project locations as needed, as well as West Coast travel for HR team meetings and professional development. Approximately 10% travel.
