Roles & Responsibilities

  • Oversee, negotiate, and direct coordination with external agencies.
  • Interpret and enforce local bylaws and regulations as applicable.
  • Take necessary actions to rectify deficiencies or regulatory violations.
  • Review a variety of development applications, including surveys, permits, site plans, variance requests, and rezoning.
  • Supervise and guide subconsultants.
  • Develop, maintain, and adjust project schedules of small to medium scale.
  • Inform clients and external agencies about any delays.
  • Conduct comprehensive design reviews and confirm analyses.
  • Review and approve cost estimates.
  • Provide expert design advice to clients.
  • Negotiate with approving agencies for relaxation of design requirements or acceptance of alternative design options.
  • Conduct site visits as required.
  • Complete review, evaluation, and finalization of basic technical writing.
  • Write, review, and present formal and technical reports, proposals, and correspondence.
  • Identify community issues, problems, and opportunities that could impact project outcomes.
  • Assist in developing long-term plans for communities facing common developmental issues.
  • Lead and participate in meetings with clients, subconsultants, and external agencies.
  • Lead and attend open houses and meetings during weekends or evenings.
  • Represent clients at public hearings and council meetings.


Skills & Qualifications

  • The Project Planner role requires a Master’s degree along with minimum 2 years of planning experience.
  • A Master’s degree in Urban Planning or Economics is preferred.
  • Eligibility for MCIP is a must.
  • Proficiency in computer hardware and software programs, including Microsoft Office, Internet applications, econometric or transportation modeling, database management, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, GIS or mapping software.
  • Creative problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve less well-defined practical problems.
  • Ability to review plans and apply bylaws and regulations to ensure compliance and apply regulations to field conditions.
