Roles & Responsibilities
- Oversee, negotiate, and direct coordination with external agencies.
- Interpret and enforce local bylaws and regulations as applicable.
- Take necessary actions to rectify deficiencies or regulatory violations.
- Review a variety of development applications, including surveys, permits, site plans, variance requests, and rezoning.
- Supervise and guide subconsultants.
- Develop, maintain, and adjust project schedules of small to medium scale.
- Inform clients and external agencies about any delays.
- Conduct comprehensive design reviews and confirm analyses.
- Review and approve cost estimates.
- Provide expert design advice to clients.
- Negotiate with approving agencies for relaxation of design requirements or acceptance of alternative design options.
- Conduct site visits as required.
- Complete review, evaluation, and finalization of basic technical writing.
- Write, review, and present formal and technical reports, proposals, and correspondence.
- Identify community issues, problems, and opportunities that could impact project outcomes.
- Assist in developing long-term plans for communities facing common developmental issues.
- Lead and participate in meetings with clients, subconsultants, and external agencies.
- Lead and attend open houses and meetings during weekends or evenings.
- Represent clients at public hearings and council meetings.
Skills & Qualifications
- The Project Planner role requires a Master’s degree along with minimum 2 years of planning experience.
- A Master’s degree in Urban Planning or Economics is preferred.
- Eligibility for MCIP is a must.
- Proficiency in computer hardware and software programs, including Microsoft Office, Internet applications, econometric or transportation modeling, database management, AutoCAD, Adobe Suite, GIS or mapping software.
- Creative problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve less well-defined practical problems.
- Ability to review plans and apply bylaws and regulations to ensure compliance and apply regulations to field conditions.
