Role: Senior Legal Counsel
PAYE 1 Year Contract
Location: London, Hybrid, 3 days a week in the office
Our client is seeking to recruit a Senior Legal Counsel based in London on a Hybrid basis. You will be joining a busy team of 3 other qualified lawyers on a contractor basis for a period of one year.
This role offers you unparalleled exposure to legal work across the entire commodity trading lifecycle – both physical and financial – through close collaboration with Front Office, Risk functions, Finance, Back Office, and multiple business units.
Key Responsibilities
Reviewing drafting and negotiating a broad range of energy commodity trading agreements, including spot and term sale and purchase agreements storage agreements, as well as advising on documentation ancillary to such transactions, such as general terms and conditions, tenders, agency/brokerage agreements, terms sheets, memoranda of understanding and inter-company service agreements;
Providing legal advice and support to the company’s trading desks on recurrent trading issues (recap terms, change of INCOTERMS, delayed deliveries, defaults) and advising the business on the resolution of trading and non trading disputes, with the support of externa counsel, when required;
Supporting the credit and KYC teams in connection with the drafting and negotiation of parent company guarantees, NDAs, letters of credit, ISDAs;
Supporting the origination teams with bespoke documentation such as profit sharing agreements, JVs, service agreements or the developing of new areas of business such as carbon trading;
Advising on, drafting and negotiating sanctions and compliance clauses in sale and purchase and transportation agreements, as well as a sound understanding of the workings of the main international trade sanctions regimes;
Providing general legal support in the areas of corporate governance, UK commercial regulation, insolvency and insurance.
Experience on shipping contracts (voyage charters, time charters and COAs), carbon clauses and litigation is preferable but not essential.
Essential Qualifications And Skills

Transactional or contentious Qualified solicitor in England and Wales with five to six years’ post-qualification experience obtained either in a law firm or an in-house legal team with an established reputation in trading and shipping.
Tangible experience of working in the energy sector and track record of advising on commodity trading issues
Shipping / transportation experience advantageous but not essential
