Reporting to the Regional Operations Manager, the onsite Construction Manager oversees the planning, execution, and completion of construction projects that involve the overseeing of contractors to install and integrate automation technologies within an industrial beverage facility, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards while adhering to safety regulations; key responsibilities include project planning, budget management, coordinating with contractors, supervising installation and ensuring proper documentation and handover procedures are followed.
The Site Construction Manager will ensure compliance with all national and local procedures, regulations, and codes, and will provide progress updates through appropriate management channels on a regular basis. With every project, the construction manager will be counted on to drive the innovation to identify and take advantage of opportunities in which to optimize the schedule.
This position drives construction efforts by providing technical support to craft and supervision as
well as helping to satisfy quality requirements on the automation project. Initiate action when necessary to ensure the project is being built as specified in the scope of work. The individual will need to provide construction engineering and technical support to the contractors as required.
Construction Execution
- Play the lead role in development of the safety culture on the project, making safety a natural part of all work performed
- Analyze situations, identify and forecast potential constraints and evaluate realistic solutions; and implement appropriate course of action
- Organize and prioritize a variety of tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet critical time deadlines
- Conduct weekly site team meetings covering last week progress, current state, and next weeks plan at minimum, reserving a place on the agenda for each discipline to report their specific activities.
- Review all required meetings and weekly activities and be expected to align with client to limit the time away from the field by contractor supervisory personnel during anticipated breaks between execution needs, this individual will continue to attend the required daily and weekly meetings as agreed to with local client management
- Timely processing of change orders
- Provides construction engineering and technical support for site mechanical & electrical construction activities
- Assists contractor supervision and craftsmen with regard to engineering or construction deficiencies in accordance with project specifications
- Coordinates, obtains, and provides responses for structural Requests for Information (RFI’s)
- Attend internal & external construction meetings and participate in review, comment, adjustment, and timely issue of protocol by the responsible preparer.
- Monitors the construction contractor’s manpower levels and craft mixes to ensure conformance with the construction plan.
- Ensures contractors are executing their construction activities in conformance with project drawings, specifications, schedules, quality requirements and safety standards
- Monitors the site contractors project schedules and use of all construction resources including manpower, materials, tools, equipment, and provides recommendations for improving efficiency.
- Organize and prioritize a variety of projects and multiple tasks in an effective and timely manner, set priorities, and meet deadlines
- Plan and organize own work assignments, as well as carry out tasks from management staff
- Coordinates system completion and system turnover with regard to commissioning and start-up requirements.
- Coordinate the completion of construction activities in assigned systems and prepares punch lists to ensure the readiness of systems for release for turnover to the client or for start up
- Maintain compliance with all applicable policies, procedures, and Client standards
- Meet expectations on attendance and punctuality
- Expedite critical areas of construction where possible.
- Review on weekly basis the schedule forecasts against baseline.
- Proven experience managing complex automation construction projects
- Multi-discipline work experience within the EPC industry.
- Proficiency in project management methodologies and tools
- Industrial construction experience as an Electrical Field Engineer or Electrical Superintendent is preferred
- Strong understanding of building automation systems, industrial control systems, and related technologies
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
- Knowledge of relevant safety standards and regulations
- Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study. (Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field preferred)
- 10-15 years* of work-related experience
- Job related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job
- Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national
- statutes and guidelines
- Thorough understanding of engineering, architectural, and other construction drawings.
