We currently seek an experienced Technical Editor on a direct hire basis within our client’s environmental engineering and science consulting firm. The ideal Technical Editor candidate will play a critical role in ensuring the clarity, and consistency of technical documents and reports and improving the language of the documents produced by the firm's consultants and scientists. This position requires a keen eye for detail, strong writing and editing skills, and an understanding of scientific document production. This is a hybrid position, based in Irvine, CA.
Job Requirements:
- Review, edit, and format technical documents and data tables, including data summary reports, scientific studies, and project proposals.
- Conduct quality control during review to ensure that text data matches what is reported in tables.
- Ensure all documents adhere to company standards, as well as applicable client requirements and regulatory guidelines identified by the author.
- Collaborate with authors to ensure accurate and effective written communication.
- Maintain consistency in terminology, style, and branding across all documentation.
- Conduct quality control reviews to identify and correct errors in grammar, punctuation, spelling, and improve the overall flow of the document.
- Manage multiple editing projects simultaneously, meeting tight deadlines without compromising quality.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of internal templates, style guides, and best practices for technical writing and editing.
- Provide constructive feedback and guidance to authors to improve overall writing quality and document clarity.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in English, Technical Writing, Environmental Science, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a technical editor, preferably in the environmental consulting industry.
- Reasonable understanding of environmental science and terminology.
- Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a high level of attention to detail.
- Advanced understanding of Microsoft Office Suite and document management software with an emphasis on formatting within Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel. Proficiency in Microsoft Access a plus.
- Experience with environmental data is a plus.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Certification in technical writing or editing (e.g., from the Society for Technical Communication) is a plus.
