Position: Technical Inspector (Mechanical Equipment)
Employment Type: Full-time
Locations: Chennai
Responsibilities:
A. Respond promptly to notification calls for inspections.
B. Coordinate with a contracted second party, to ensure timely inspections at the supplier's workshop.
C. Verify and adhere to Inspection and Test plans agreed upon with suppliers.
D. Conduct Pre-Inspection meetings with suppliers when necessary.
E. Perform inspections at supplier workshops.
F. Prepare comprehensive inspection reports, non-conformance reports, and inspection acceptance notes as needed. Review reports submitted by second-party inspectors if applicable.
G. Conduct workshop audits as required during the project or for vendor evaluation.
H. Input data into various inspection logs to assess inspection-related performance.
Qualifications, Certifications, and Competencies:
A. Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
B. 5-12 years of relevant experience in inspecting mechanical items such as vessels, tanks, valves, and rotating equipment, preferably in the Iron and steel-making industry.
C. Proficiency in interpreting mechanical drawings.
D. Strong understanding of Welding Technology and Inspection, preferably holding a Certified Welding Inspector certification.
E. Proficiency in VT, PT, MT, RT, and UT at least at level-II.
F. Basic understanding of coating and related inspection.
G. Familiarity with various inspection types including incoming material inspection, positive material inspection, fit-up inspections, non-destructive examination of weld joints, pressure and leak test inspection, coating inspection, etc.
H. Knowledgeable in QC terminologies.
I. Intermediate proficiency in English language skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening, and comprehension).
J. Strong problem-solving skills.
K. Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet strict deadlines.
L. Aptitude for proposing solutions to challenges encountered during inspections.
M. Presentation skills.
N. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
O. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
P. Ethical, regular, and punctual.
Q. Willingness to travel extensively (approximately 80% of work time) for inspections.
