TRS is seeking an Urban Designer to join our client's growing team!

As an Urban Designer, you’ll be the maestro of negotiation and decision-making, always striving for the best outcomes for our clients. You’ll be under the direct guidance of our seasoned planners, project planners, and the planning manager, but don’t think you’ll just be following orders.

In this role, you’ll also be a mentor, guiding our planning designers and technicians on their journey. And you won’t be working in isolation - you’ll be collaborating closely with our planning analysts, making this a truly dynamic and engaging role. If you’re ready for a challenge and want to make a real impact, the Urban Designer role could be your next big move.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Execute advanced subdivision and conceptual layout designs.
  • Conduct advanced illustrative design and master planning tasks.
  • Review or aid in reviewing moderately complex development proposals and site plans for compliance with codes, plans, and regulations.
  • Assess or assist in assessing rezoning/subdivision applications, site plans, special use permits, variances, and other proposals.
  • Communicate with subconsultants and external agencies and manage their outcomes.
  • Develop, maintain, and modify project schedules (small to medium).
  • Inform clients and external agencies about delays.
  • Conduct overall design review and confirm analysis.
  • Review and approve cost estimates.
  • Advise clients/municipal staff on critical technical issues.
  • Conduct site visits as required.
  • Complete review, evaluation, and finalization of basic technical writing.
  • Lead a small team
  • Provide mentorship.

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in urban planning, architecture, public policy, or a related field, along with minimum of 2 years of planning experience.
  • Understanding of planning principles and practices.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD with additional illustrative skills (Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign).
  • Knowledge of research and data collection principles and practices.
  • Experience with the land development process, including site planning, neighborhood plans, and other high-level plans and graphics.
  • Creative problem-solving skills to gather relevant information to solve vaguely defined practical problems.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects or issues at the same time.
  • Ability to work independently or in a team as needed.
  • Attention to detail while keeping overarching goals in mind.
We thank all applicants for their interest; however only those who are authorized to work in Canada will be considered for this position and only those selected for interviews will be contacted.
