Job Title: Engineering Manager
Location: Athol, MA
Industry: plastics manufacturing
Status of Hire: direct placement; permanent
Pay: $100k-$125k



Essential Duties and Responsibilities  
  • Responsible for all aspects of engineering from tooling design to process development, assisting in material selection and process trouble shooting.
  • Lead New Product Development to help sustain business growth. Includes new material processing.
  • Direct, mentor and coach Process Engineers and technicians with a hands-on approach for tooling design and process development.
  • Responsible for preparing engineering data required for RFQ as per customer drawings. Includes performing feasibility for manufacturability, material selection and suggests design changes for extrudability to achieve customer requirements.
  • Manages the APQP process, directly and indirectly involved in the design and/or redesign of parts or products and the design and/or improvements to the tooling, processes and systems in use or needed by the company to efficiently manufacture them.
  • Responsible for proposal, preparation, and execution of capital expenditure (CAPEX) projects
  • Actively participates in product and process improvement projects with the overall goals of improving safety, productivity, and quality.  Hands on problem definition, identification of causes and provision of engineering solutions through modification of the process, tooling and/or product
  • Maintains and update tooling timeline, monthly reports, and tooling status reports.
  • Support with ISO audits and certifications
  • Keep current with new technologies and best practices and apply to plant and customer needs
  • Support other sites for engineering needs. Be a team player to improve the overall performance of the business.
  • Performs other accountabilities as assigned.

Qualifications 
  • B.S. degree in Engineering or appropriate experience.
  • Minimum five (5) to seven (7) years’ work experience in plastics extrusion manufacturing.
    • Some experience in team leadership or management strongly preferred.
  • Strong plastics extrusion process and materials knowledge required.
  • Excellent English communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Strong understanding of machining, knowledge of extrusion equipment and troubleshooting preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership, team oriented and innovative skills.
  • Ability to deal with sensitive issues in a manner which maintains customer satisfaction, goodwill towards company and employee morale.

Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, and move about the facility.
  • Occasionally required to inspect and/or diagnose equipment problems. 
  • This position will require minimal travel to other plants

Work Environment
  • Works in an office and manufacturing environment.
  • Occasionally exposed to dust, odors, fumes and noise associated with extrusion, machining and fabrication manufacturing processes
