TRS are delighted to work with an award winning consultancy company who have exciting opportunities for talented Rail Systems Assurance & RAMs Managers. The role is a permanent, full-time opportunity and work location is in Toronto, Ontario.
The responsibilities for the Rail Systems Assurance and RAMS include:
- Resource planning for the Canada rail systems engineering team.
- Mentor staff to develop future leaders, develop staff skill sets, and promote learning from successes and challenges within the rail systems team.
- Develop the technical, commercial, and soft skills of rail systems staff.
- Recruiting of new staff to meet the demands of the business.
- Support the Americas Rail Systems Engineering Leader by contributing to the overall leadership of the rail systems engineering and infrastructure practice in Canada.
- Be a strong ambassador of the company’s culture and values.
- Promote collaboration within rail systems, infrastructure and other skill and business groups within the company locally, regionally, and globally.
- Active participation in the Americas rail skill network.
- Building relationships with current and future key clients and partners and fostering healthy long-term relationships.
- Contribute to business development activities including positioning and authoring proposals.
- Set bid strategies that ensure compliance with Group strategy and bid guideline procedures, and develop, review, and approve proposal documents.
- Developing schedule, hour, and cost estimates to complete work for major projects.
- Achieve successful commercial delivery of the rail systems projects or portions of projects being delivered by the rail systems and infrastructure teams.
- Proactive engagement with clients to prepare high quality, technically efficient and cost-effective project solutions; and
- Fostering a culture and executing processes that achieve quality outcomes.
Typical Systems Assurance and RAMS lead activities will include:
- Producing System Safety and RAM plans and models and setting up and implementing typical System Safety and Assurance processes.
- Facilitating HAZID, FMEA/FMECA, WHATIF etc. workshops.
- Setting up and managing Hazard Logs.
- leading or undertaking system safety and RAM activities for feasibility, concept, and detailed design of rail projects.
- SIL assessments.
- development of ALARP/SFAIRP assessments.
- Independent review of safety activities performed by others.
- Development of safety critical and RAM critical items lists.
- Overall systems assurance and V&V.
- Independent review of RAM activities undertaken by others.
- Support the preparation of bids and tenders to help win work for the firm.
Qualifications:
- Able to demonstrate ability and experience in formulating and implementing System Engineering and Assurance plans and processes and ensuring that project teams operate in accordance with those plans and processes.
- Able to explain modern systems assurance techniques and processes to engineers and managers.
- Experience with rail projects and their modern design lifecycles.
- Familiarity with current engineering, RAM, safety, and security management practice.
- Familiar with railway performance modelling (including power modelling).
- Experience of requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS.
- Bachelor’s / master’s degree in engineering.
- 10+ years’ rail industry recognized experience in design of complex rail systems projects.
- Experience in systems assurance, integration, and implementation of rail systems such as signals, communications, track, and electrification.
- Experience in rail operations simulations and modeling.
- Experience in rail systems assurance and V&V.
- Understanding of the competitive environment in Canada.
