Location: Augusta, GA 30906
Industry: complex processes (industrial metals refining, processing)
Status of Hire: 12 month contract (W-2), could go longer
Pay: $110-130k (depending on experience)
Reports to: Construction Director
Overall Objective:
As a Field Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical assistance to the construction team, ensuring that construction activities are carried out according to project schedule, budget, technical specifications, and quality and safety standards, as well as for resolving technical issues that may arise on the project site. You will also be responsible for interfacing between contractors and the owners’ team on matters related to design and construction by managing technical requests for information (RFIs) in the field.
Responsibilities:
Technical expertise and RFI management: provide technical support to the construction team, including interpreting project plans and specifications, resolving technical issues, and coordinating with design and engineering teams.
Manage the RFI process – review and transmit requests for information regarding designs and engineering work and, when possible, respond to technical RFIs in the field, or escalate to design engineering firm
Work closely with the project team to identify and resolve technical issues that may arise during construction activities
Coordinate with the logistics manager to obtain required material requisitions for permanent and temporary materials as directed
As required, support the PMO and Construction Director in interpreting design drawings/documents, monitoring equipment installation, planning material and equipment delivery and preparation and implementation of the 3-week look-ahead, four-week rolling schedule and budget control
Quality assurance (QA): monitor and track construction progress and interface with 3rd parties performing testing on plant’s behalf, ensuring that construction activities are carried out in accordance with project designs, schedules, and deadlines in close cooperation with the Design Manager
Conduct site inspections of construction work and materials and review contractor records, ensuring that they meet design specifications and quality and safety standards
Coordinate with project stakeholders, including project team, subcontractors, and suppliers, to ensure that construction activities are carried out according to project requirements
Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of construction activities, including site conditions, work progress, materials usage, and equipment operation (for direct hires)
Experience/Education Requirements:
5+ years of experience in field engineering, preferably with experience with industrial complex processing or industrial manufacturing plant projects (or similar scope, scale, and complexity within the U.S.)
Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, electrical) and understanding of multiple engineering disciplines
Strong knowledge of construction best practices, techniques, and methods
Able to read and interpret design information, including temporary facility drawings, grading and underground commodity drawings and pile layouts
Experience with project management software (e.g., Oracle Aconex, ProCore) preferred
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English
Ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Highly organized and attentive to detail
Comfort with fast-paced, quickly changing environment
