Due to an expanding project pipeline and increasing workloads, the company is seeking an experienced Mechanical Foreman / Maintenance Engineer to join our client’s team at one of their mining sites who will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repair of mining equipment, ensuring that operations are conducted safely and efficiently. This role will be based in Welkom. Your leadership will streamline the maintenance, repair, and operational processes, directly contributing to the overall success of the mining projects.
Job Responsibilities:
- Equipment Maintenance: Supervise the maintenance and repair of all mining equipment, including rock drills, thrust legs, and other machinery.
- Installation Oversight: Manage and oversee all equipment installations, both on the surface and underground.
- Preventative Maintenance: Develop and implement effective preventative maintenance schedules and procedures to keep all equipment in optimal working condition.
- Inspections: Conduct regular inspections (both surface and underground) of all equipment to proactively identify and address potential issues that may lead to downtime.
- Training: Ensure that all mining crews are adequately trained to operate equipment safely and efficiently.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor equipment performance and provide feedback and coaching to team members as necessary.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities and equipment performance.
- Policy Compliance: Ensure that all maintenance and repair work complies with company policies and procedures.
- Asset Management: Oversee effective management of assets, including critical and consumable spare parts.
- Team Management: Oversee the performance and competence of staff on site, ensuring a high standard of work and safety.
- On-site Oversight: Manage all on-site personnel and functions.
Qualifications & Skill Requirements:
- Matric certificate.
- Qualified Millwright, Fitter, or Electrician qualification.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar maintenance role within the mining industry, with proven experience managing maintenance teams.
- Asset Management: Prior experience in asset management processes and practices.
- Compliance: Ensure the site complies with health and safety regulations, as well as equipment and employee standards.
- Project Management: Demonstrated success in managing engineering and maintenance projects on mining sites.
- OEE Expertise: Proven ability to optimize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
- Risk Management: Proficient in risk management techniques, including the identification and mitigation of risks through Preventive Maintenance (PPM).
- Technical Knowledge: Strong technical understanding of various maintenance methodologies and mining standards.
- Valid Medical Certificate or proven medical fitness to work underground.
- Must possess a clean criminal record.
