Reporting to the companies General Manager the Head of Marine Operations and Chartering will be responsible for the day to day operations of the shipping company and chartering activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- To Manage the daily post fixture operations of the chartered/owned vessel and to support post fixtures to improve the business.
- Accountable for ensuring that services are being delivered as per agreement and ensuring that SOPs and process documentation are up to date as per the company and the maritime standards for all processes under Marine Operations.
- Ensure that the work is carried out in a professional manner and in compliance with applicable contracts and agreements
- Responsible for driving Process Excellence in the team make suggestions for innovation, savings, and improvements within the area of responsibility
- Review the technical content of the procedure, as a quality check
- Drive continuous improvement of the process; Identify success factors, root causes of issues, improvement opportunities, and facilitate performance improvements.
- Actively monitor work progress such that risks and problem areas are identified, reported and addressed.
- Accountable for achieving process excellence mindset and transformation of the team
- Accountable for accurate and timely reporting of data to stakeholders
- Accountable for the further development of his/her team, mainly direct reports
- Accountable for successful implementation of specific department improvement initiatives, projects,
etc.
- To develop strategies to lessen re-stowage every time the vessel achieves full capacity.
- To ensure that voyages and port operations are run effectively, in collaboration with operational teams.
- To create strategies to optimize the sailing condition of the vessels throughout the voyage.
- To ensure the improvement of productivity and to anticipate the problems to handle them in the most satisfying & timely manner.
- Budget and Planning, Risk management of all shipping operations activities.
- Responsible for the Vetting performance, and data analysis for focused improvement plans.
- Develop new business strategies, diversify and expand company activities, implement marketing strategies, direct chartering operations, implement & supervise new programs, port operations & management major conversion & refit projects, tender bidding, marine equipment sourcing and purchasing, vessel chartering and contract administration.
- Reducing cargo and other claims and effectively resolving critical operational issues.
- Providing least cost solutions for a wide variety of freight movements through using the existing pool of vessels.
- Ability to anticipate and coordinate future requirements and make recommendations for the adjustment to the controlled pool of vessels to fit forward trading patterns.
- Supporting and effectively resolving operational issues.
- Responsible for processing the ship specific manuals.
- Cut down operating costs by evaluating port disbursement accounts, negotiating contracts for the shipowners with the charterers on lay time calculation, charter party, and fixture note.
- In charge of chartering operations, clauses negotiations with shipbroker and shipowner, approving the charter party for the company.
- In charge of the approval of all chartering invoices, issuing and approving the hire final statement following the provisions of the charter party.
Requirements:
- At least 10 years spent in the dry bulk sector
- Extensive operations and commercial management experience
- Previous seagoing career with recent shorebased management experience
- Middle East experience is preferred
- Shipowner experience is preferred
