Location: Raleigh, NC or Charleston, SC
Full time/Direct Hire
Specific Duties:
- Working knowledge of key waste and wastewater regulations, including solid waste, hazardous waste, underground storage tanks, NPDES, brownfields, and other voluntary cleanup programs.
- Provide technical support, oversight, quality assurance (QA) review, and management of projects involving:
- Groundwater, soil, surface water, vapor intrusion, and per- and polyfluoroalkyl substance (PFAS) contaminant investigations and remediation;
- Industrial and municipal facility and infrastructure environmental assessments, siting studies, and redevelopment support;
- Underground storage tank (UST) investigations and closures;
- QA and quality control (QC) programs and plans;
- Waste characterization and disposal evaluations;
- Regulatory permitting and compliance.
- Conduct project management duties including preparation of proposals, work plans, and reports; delegating and overseeing project team assignments; conducting or leading field team activities; and performing fiscal and other administration functions.
- Prepare proposals that include problem statements, detailed scopes of work, cost estimates, and project schedules.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams of engineers, scientists, and other professionals to prepare site assessment and remediation plans and to perform project delivery activities such as report writing, data collection and interpretation, literature review, and development of recommendations for clients.
- Conduct thorough detailed technical writing reviews of reports written by others on the project team.
- Effectively communicate findings and recommendations internally and to the client. Coordinate and communicate with environmental regulatory agencies and participate in project meetings as a project representative with staff from government agencies.
- Interact with others and carry out all work-related activities in a manner which demonstrates a high level of professionalism.
- The position will require the candidate to work both independently and on project teams, and to possess the capacity to manage multiple projects and multiple tasks to maintain project schedules.
- Perform and oversee field measurements, sample collection, remedial actions, and field documentation. Some travel is required for project work and meetings in the Charleston and/or Greenville offices.
- Develop work with existing clients and prospective clients.
- Demonstrate a willingness to be supportive of and encouraging to other members of the organization.
- Understand and use good safety and health and procedures.
- Represent the company well to others. Provide external clients with prompt and effective service.
- Safeguard and appropriately handle sensitive, confidential, or proprietary documents, data, and other information, written or oral.
- Adapt rapidly and effectively to changing conditions both internal and external to the group.
- Write clearly and concisely and presents data and arguments in an organized fashion, in a presentation directed to the client(s) and agencies.
- Find and champion new and better ways to get things done.
- Add value through level of contributions both within and outside the scope of daily responsibilities.
- Bachelor of Science or Master’s degree in geology, hydrogeology, environmental engineering, or related scientific field of study.
- A North Carolina and or South Carolina Licensed Geologist.
- At least eight years of professional environmental experience, with at least three of the years directly supervising investigation and remediation of hazardous substance or waste disposal sites.
- A Registered Site Manager (RSM) in the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Registered Environmental Consultant Program, or the credentials to obtain RSM approval.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Qualified to serve as a testifying expert witness for litigation cases is a plus.
- Word and Excel experience required.
