Job Title: Maintenance Lead
Location: Kenosha, WI
Industry: Manufacturing (mechanical assembly)
Status of Hire: direct placement; permanent
Pay: $34/hr + unlimited OT + Bonus
Reports to: Plant Manager
Summary: Manage and perform maintenance and repair duties to maintain and repair production equipment and plant facilities, assist the research and development function, set-up and build show products, and build/repair production tooling.  Manage and perform general janitorial activities. Manage training of direct reports and equipment users.  Manage planning, organizing, and coordinating Maintenance activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Manage planning, organizing, and coordinating Maintenance work, utilizing available knowledge, skills, and abilities.  Manage schedule and determine man hours.  Manage assigning maintenance workers to appropriate tasks.
  • Train employees in maintenance operations.  Develop goal setting and related employee progress review.  Provide instruction on safe working procedures and safety regulations. 
  • Manage and perform general and preventative maintenance of all plant equipment.  Check malfunctioning equipment, determine problems, and perform repairs or part(s) replacement, consistent with work order or instructions.  Perform additional tasks such as replacing fuses, changing bearings and belts, etc.   Maintain plumbing, heating, ventilating, and air handling equipment.  Repair lift hoists, including replacing hooks, cords, and safety latches.  Replacement of saw blades on saws. 
  • Perform building maintenance such as replacing locks and windows, painting, installing air and water lines, replacing plumbing fixtures, etc.
  • Set up and operate milling machine for making tooling, engineering samples and occasional production parts.
  • Manage, set-up and install new production machinery, including installation of related air, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Assist contractors with large or complex projects.  Maintain work area safety and order and suggest techniques which improve production efficiency or reduce costs.  Assist engineering department in building prototypes.  Manage and build production fixtures for production and new products testing.  Build show displays and set-up presentation displays to assist the sales/marketing function.
  • Manage and perform general housekeeping activities daily such as sweeping and mopping floors and emptying trash receptacles in restrooms and locker rooms.  Replenish hand towels, toilet tissue and soap as needed.  Empty trash receptacles in lunchroom, as needed. 
  • Removal of snow from walkways and salt, as needed.
  • Operate a motor vehicle to pick up maintenance supplies and parts. 
  • Research replacement parts and enter purchase order into the computer system.  Order parts, as needed. 
  • Travel to training/seminars to maintain and enhance knowledge of maintenance and repair techniques.
  • Follow all safety and work rules and maintain workplace order and cleanliness.
  • Perform other miscellaneous duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Requires strong management skills, knowledge of maintenance and repairs.  Requires ability to read and understand maintenance/repair-related drawing, blueprints, and written instructions.  Requires the ability to perform calculations relating to maintenance/repair procedures, and setting up the milling machine for making tooling, production, and engineering samples.
  • Requires 7-10 years’ experience in production equipment and building facility maintenance and repair techniques.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to operate a motor vehicle in a safe fashion while carefully observing all traffic rules.
  • Requires the ability to travel to maintenance/repair related training programs and seminars.
  • Requires the ability to function as a team member and contribute to group goals.
  • Requires the ability to operate a variety of materials handling equipment (forklift, hand truck, pallet jack, or overhead crane) while carefully observing all material handling safety rules.  Requires the ability to operate a variety of maintenance related equipment such as a milling machine and welding equipment (mig welder, stud welder, plasma cutter, and oxygen/acetylene torches).  Requires the ability to operate a variety of hand tools such as a pneumatic grinder, pneumatic drill, sockets, wrenches and screwdriver, power saws, electrical testing equipment, precision measuring instruments, and a tape measure.
Physical Requirements:
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand and/or use hands to finger, handle, or touch objects or controls. 
  • The employee is occasionally required to walk, climb or balance, reach above shoulders, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and/or use foot/feet to operate machine controls. 
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds while performing maintenance/repair duties. 
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or up to 50 pounds while performing maintenance/repair duties such as replacing an electric motor.
  •  Specific vision requirements of this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The employee frequently works in proximity to moving mechanical parts.
  • The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, the risk of electric shock, and sources of vibration.
  • The employee must wear safety glasses and steel-toed shoes while working in manufacturing areas and must wear a welding helmet, welding gloves, and a long sleeve shirt while performing welding operations.
  • The noise level in the work environment is loud while working in production areas.
