Procurement Manager

A leading Mining operator is looking to recruit a Project Procurement Manager to work on a major project in West Africa.

The scope of the project is to increase port and rail facility, build a concentrator plant virtually from scratch (although some of the engineering has been done) and to increase the production volume of the mine.

As Procurement Manager you will be driving continuous improvement initiatives, assessing, implementing and streamlining processes to better support purchasing processes.

Responsibilities as Procurement Manager will include:
Develop and implement the strategy for the procurement function.
Ensure all strategies are coordinated with stakeholders and aligned to business requirements.
Align to Global Category strategies for key categories, engage and support Category Managers to implement operational strategies that support the global strategy.
Manage departmental budgets
Policy and Procedures
Ensure the integrity of procurement processes and ensure that any issues of non-compliance to policy or procedure are notified, escalated (where required) and action/close out taken.
Design and maintain effective local procurement processes and procedures working within the Global/Corporate/Regional frameworks and aligning to best procurement practices.
Ensure HSES compliance.
Maintain strong communication to ensure that procurement supports the business requirements.
Ensure new or changed supply arrangements are effectively communicated to all stakeholders affected and appropriate change management program is implemented.
Facilitate transparent and close collaboration with Global Mining Procurement and the Mining Segment.
Identify strategic suppliers and coordinate business reviews with suppliers and internal teams.
Actively drive improved supplier performance, through continuous improvement, performance evaluations, supplier corrective actions and cost reduction programs.
Actively manage supply risk and ensure vendors comply with assurance programs.
Ensure risk analysis & compliance in purchasing decisions.
Ensure compliance to contracts is managed, with appropriate controls and contract review processes in place.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience as a Procurement Manager in the Mining industry. You must have worked on mining projects in Africa, preferably West Africa.
You will need the ability to manage complex dynamics in terms of the interplay between projects (time is the only variable that matters), versus procurement looking at standardisation, supplier management, long term cost structure and supplier support.
You must have the ability to work under pressure and to strict deadlines and remain in control in highly pressurised environments.
