This is a 2-month contract position with the possibility of short extension.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the processing of tax and utility payments at the Finance counter, ensuring daily cash balancing.
- Accept payments in cash, cheque, and debit/credit.
- Handle mailed and electronic payment processing.
- Reconcile all received payments.
- Review and verify Home Owner Grant applications for accuracy and completeness.
- Enter payments and Home Owner Grant applications into the Taxation Administration System (TAS).
- Provide customer service and respond to property tax inquiries in person or over the phone.
- Maintain records and assist with both paper and electronic filings.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as needed.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Preferably, completion of post-secondary courses in bookkeeping and accounting.
- Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and Outlook (intermediate level or higher). Familiarity with SharePoint is a plus.
- At least 1 year of experience in an office environment, with previous data entry experience being advantageous.
- Experience in a front-line, high-volume customer service role, ideally within a municipal setting or financial institution.
- Ability to interact professionally and courteously with the public and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues under stressful conditions.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail in all tasks with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills
- Must pass a criminal record check.
