Summary:
This position conducts work directly related to management or general business operations in an organization or functional area. The work requires advanced knowledge gained from a prolonged course of specialized instruction, experience, and expertise. The position includes work requiring the consistent exercise of discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance. The BIM Manager role would suit an experienced BIM Coordinator / Site Coordinator who is seeking to move into a managerial position and progress in their career.

Scope:
The BIM Manager position would essentially suit an experienced BIM Coordinator who has progressed through initial BIM Coordination on smaller projects, to coordinating large-scale projects with multiple teams and third parties, and is looking to progress into BIM management to further their career. The individual would perform the essential duties and job functions of BIM, in support of small to medium-sized projects, reporting to the Project Manager / Director. Alongside project work, the individual would work alongside the core BIM Group within the company when necessary to assist in BIM Development for the Business as and when needed.

Principal Job Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Responsible to plan, implement, and execute the Building Information Modeling (BIM) requirements for a project.
  • Responsible for providing BIM technical and administrative direction, coordination, evaluation, training, and coaching to the project BIM coordinator(s) and associated Project Execution team.
  • Develop, implement, and train project team on a project-specific BIM Execution Plan (BEP).
  • Serves as a BIM Development & Implementation Manager on a small to medium-sized project and as a BIM Expert for the entire project team.
  • As a key resource on a project team, the role requires collaboration at all levels, including client representatives, Company BIM coordinator(s), management and functional leads.
  • Understand and align with Company's data-centric execution practices to capture, track, and report required data attributes.
  • Develop standards, job bulletins, and other required documents to support full project execution with flexibility for Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) method and work with project BIM coordinator(s) to implement on a project to include:
    • Work Face Planning integration
    • Validated software option
    • Interoperability between various software
    • Flexibility for Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) mindset/execution
  • Develop cost, schedule, and commercial baseline for BIM development and implementation as required.
  • Analyze variances in cost and schedule performance against the plan and communicate the reasons for the issuance of variance and proposed mitigation plans to Project Management.
  • Responsible for the development and oversight of BIM collaboration site data management systems (Example; ACC, Industry Data Standards (COBie), Company BIM Acceleration Tool, Nucleus Interface) and train BIM Coordinator(s) as required.
  • Lead coordination responsibility as it relates to the implementation of project fabrication plans whereas the BIM Coordinator provides point of contact resources for efficient management of related issues.
  • Direct responsibility for the assurance model quality (accuracy, clash-free, and meets design intent).
  • Participate in BIM / IPD seminars, training for continued learning experiences and knowledge of BIM / IPD local regulations.
  • Participate in Company's University courses for continued learning experiences.
  • Participate in oversight and implementation of the Company BIM software toolset, application interfaces, and data mapping between the BIM toolset and other project reference software.
  • Utilize knowledge management processes to capture support and leverage relevant knowledge to enhance project execution.
  • Work with Construction leads to align BIM Processes with project execution construction work packages and project schedule delivery.
  • Ensure that BIM processes are aligned with Construction best practices and take into account constructability considerations.

 

Typical Minimum Qualifications - Related Education, Experience & Skills:

  • Accredited four (4) year degree or global equivalent in applicable field of study and twelve (12) years* of work-related experience, or associate degree plus 16 years* of work-related experience, or a combination of education and directly related experience equal to eighteen (18) years* if non-degreed. Experience should include leading multi-disciplinary BIM effort on 1-2 small to medium-sized projects.
  • Minimum of 2-5 yrs. of construction experience in the CAD/BIM technical arena.
  • Working Knowledge of BIM Authoring / CAD design software programs (AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Revit, etc.).
  • Experience in a highly complex and industry-diversified technical environment, specifically with an organization that is geographically dispersed, is a must.
  • Strong knowledge of BIM coordination software is a must (Navisworks, BIM 360 tools, etc.).
  • Ability to communicate effectively with audiences that include but are not limited to management, coworkers, clients, vendors, contractors, and other stakeholders.
  • Job-related technical knowledge necessary to complete the job.
  • Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national statutes and guidelines.
  • Ability to attend to detail and work in a time-conscious and time-effective manner.
  • Ability to lead coordination meetings and document issues.
  • Must demonstrate the leadership skills required to drive continuous improvement of processes which maximize the Company’s profitability.
  • Proficient in MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).


Other Job Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Participate in project peer review/gate review meetings to mitigate potential execution risks.
  • Support Excel To Win (ETW) Strategies.
  • Support Business Transformation & Innovation (BT&I) initiatives.
  • Coordinate and support Center of Excellence (COE) location(s).
  • Perform specializations which may include Project Data Analytics and Project Development Analyst activities.

Preferred Qualifications - Related Education, Experience & Skills:
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of relevant experience in engineering OR procurement and construction / construction management (EPC/EPCM) project management.
  • Proactive – goal-oriented with the initiative to influence events positively, lead Company project team, and influence client for decision making.
  • Ability to resolve complex project or business environments.
  • Ability to set and maintain high standards of self-performance with responsibility and accountability for successfully completing assignments and tasks.
  • Demonstration of innovation, initiative, maturity, and sound judgment.
  • Ability to influence a group of diverse individuals, each with their own goals, needs, and perspectives to work together effectively for the good of the project.
  • Mobility, for example, relocating to site locations as necessary.
  • Project execution experience in the industries this position will deliver services in.
  • Utilize knowledge management processes to capture support and leverage relevant knowledge to enhance project execution.
  • Familiar with 3D (Visualization, Laser Scanning point clouds), 4D, and 5D with a knowledge of how to implement on a BIM Project.
  • Ability to work directly with Lead Engineers and Construction teams and be able to support design teams in the review and verification of design and specification documents.
  • Be a solid communicator, with the ability to communicate externally with customers and with all levels within the organization to ensure successful projects.
