This role involves adhering to estimating procedures while creating project estimates. The individual may also contribute to identifying methods for improving estimating practices. In this capacity, they will work independently on smaller projects and provide estimating support for larger initiatives, where the lead estimator may oversee the final output. This position is still considered a learning opportunity for developing cost estimates related to engineering, procurement, and construction. Moderate supervision will be necessary when preparing estimates for Indirect, Escalation, Contingency, and Other Costs.
Responsibilities
- Coordinate and provide limited guidance on estimating functions to deliver accurate estimates to senior estimators promptly, ensuring the information aligns with source data.
- Create valid project coding structures and work packages for the defined scope of work.
- Design or assist in creating a Work Breakdown Structure that effectively captures all cost elements.
- Conduct self-reviews of their work and that of any subordinates to ensure precision.
- Supervise the preparation of Discipline Material Take-Offs, Material Pricing, and Labour Effort-hour Units for estimates and change orders.
- Facilitate information sharing among the Engineering, Purchasing, and Construction teams.
- Engage in the development of the Project Execution Plan, including the basis for estimates and procedures.
- Develop and maintain estimating schedules at both project and control levels.
- Provide support for proposals and studies.
- Uphold established Specialty Estimating Systems, Procedures, and Manuals.
- Perform other assigned duties as needed.
Basic Job Requirements
- A four-year accredited Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Electronic Engineering, along with five to eight years of relevant work experience, or a combination of education and directly related experience totaling ten years if not degreed. Some locations may have additional or different qualifications to meet local requirements.
- Strong communication skills to effectively engage with management, colleagues, clients, vendors, contractors, and visitors.
- Technical knowledge relevant to the job.
- Ability to learn and apply knowledge of applicable local, state/province, and federal/national regulations and guidelines.
- Attention to detail and the ability to work efficiently and effectively within time constraints.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access).
